About Us
January of 1991 found the Shackelfords entering into an agreement with Fentress Casey, his wife Martha, and his mother Mary, to purchase what was then Casey Funeral Home, a funeral service business dating back to 1891 when it was a part of Jap Hardeman’s Furniture and Hardware. Eventually Robert Casey purchased the business which had become a full-service funeral home located in what is now the Home Economics building of Freed-Hardeman University. It was Robert who moved the firm to the A. G. Freed residence in 1943, a historic home built and occupied by a co-founder of Freed-Hardeman, and it was Robert’s son Fentress who entrusted the care of Chester County’s families to the Shackelfords.
